Udayagiri And Khandagiri
These are two caves that are believed to have been cut from rocks by ancient Jain monks. They are located just a few miles away from the city of Bhubaneshwar. The caves are exactly adjacent to each other. They have inscriptions carved all over the walls. They are a magnificent sight to behold, with so much peace and tranquility oozing out from the ambience.
You will find caves within the two caves that have important carvings, sculptures, and footprints. You can visit the caves at Khandagiri from 9 am to 5 pm.
Shanti Stupa
Built on the hills of Dhaulagiri in the 70s, also known as the Peace Pagoda, the Shanti Stupa was the handiwork of the Japan Buddha Sangh and the Nippon Buddha Sangh. It is on the way to Puri and 7 km away from Bhubaneshwar. Locals and tourists go there to meditate and pray in peace. It is surrounded by other stupas that are believed to be part of King Ashoka’s rule.
The best time to visit this pagoda is from 7 am to 7 pm. There you might check out the footprints of Lord Buddha on one of the major stone panels of the Stupa.
Nandankanan Zoo
If you visit the Nandankanan Zoo, you are also visiting the Chandaka Forest. It is home to more than 67 species of animals along with a botanical garden with an equally huge variety of plants. Located near the N.K. Road Police Station is open to visitors from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Museum Of Tribal Arts & Artifacts
Move off the highway, and you are at the Museum Of Tribal Arts & Artifacts. It proudly showcases the clothing, bead ornaments, and various cultural artefacts that are associated with the tribal people of Odisha. You also get to witness their agricultural equipment, fishing, hunting weapons, and a whole lot of things that belonged to the tribals.
Situated in Nayapalli CRPF Colony, the doors are thrown open for visitors from 10 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Saturday.
