What’s the story of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha?
Gadar Ek Prem Katha unfolds against the backdrop of 1947, during the tumultuous period of India’s Partition. The film narrates the poignant tale of Tara Singh, a Sikh truck driver portrayed by Sunny Deol, who falls in love with Sakina, a Muslim girl from an aristocratic family, played by Amisha Patel.
As religious tensions escalate during the Hindu-Muslim riots following the Partition, Tara valiantly rescues Sakina from a violent mob. In gratitude, Sakina takes refuge in Tara’s home, and their mutual respect gradually blossoms into deep love. The couple eventually marries and becomes parents to a baby boy, enjoying what seems like a harmonious life together.
However, their idyllic existence takes a dramatic turn when Sakina stumbles upon an old newspaper containing a photograph of her father, portrayed by Amrish Puri, whom she believed had perished during the Partition riots. To her astonishment, he is now the Mayor of Lahore.
Sakina reaches out to her father from the Pakistani Consulate in Delhi, and he arranges for her to travel to Lahore. Unfortunately, Tara and their son encounter an unexpected obstacle – last-minute visa issues that force them to remain in India while Sakina journeys to Lahore.
Sakina arrives in Lahore, unaware of her father’s ulterior motives. He intends for her to marry a Pakistani, pursue a career in politics, and sever all ties with India, including her marriage and her son. Growing increasingly anxious, Tara eventually decides to take matters into his own hands and ventures into Lahore to reclaim his wife, but he faces the wrath of Sakina’s father and relatives.
What to expect in Gadar 2?
Unlike Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which was a romance action film, Gadar 2 is purely an action movie. You can expect a lot of intense action sequences and the iconic handpump scene to make a comeback in the sequel. The film follows the story 22 years later, in the midst of the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. Tara Singh embarks on a journey back to Pakistan to reunite with his son, Charanjeet, and bring him safely back home.
